Help

To borrow from DIGITAL EQUIPMENT LOANS students must complete an online induction here:

DEL INDUCTION

Here are some common questions, and answers, but please also be aware of the Loans Policy

Q: Why can’t I sign into the booking system at all?

A: Double check you are using the correct username and password. The username is the first bit of your email address before the @sign and without the dots. (For example if the email was j.z.smith@dundee.ac.uk the username would be jzsmith). The password is the same password you use to log in to your emails. If this is correct and still not working email help4u and request a password reset.

Q: Why can’t I book the equipment or facility I want?

A: Not all equipment and facilities are available to all users.  There are some restrictions based on course and/or year, and some access requires you to have completed the specific induction process for that equipment or facility.
You will need to complete the Digital Equipment Loans induction to borrow any Digital Equipment.

Q: Im not a DJCAD student, can I still book and use the equipment or facilities?

A: The DJCAD equipment and facilities available through this booking system are not available to everyone at the University, they are restricted to courses which are fully or partially delivered by DJCAD.

Q: Where can I collect equipment booked from DEL?

A: Digital Equipment Loans is located on Level 2 of the Matthew Building.

Q: Can you make a booking for me?

A: Users are responsible for making their own bookings however staff can advise if users are having difficulties.

Q: Where can I leave equipment if Equipment Loans is closed?

A: Users are responsible for any equipment they have borrowed; it may not be left with someone else or left anywhere else.

If the workshop is closed during normal access hours, please wait for a member of staff to return.  If you are trying to return outside normal opening hours, please return equipment the next available timeslot.

Q: Can you edit or cancel a booking for me?

A: Please use the 'Edit', 'Cancel Items' or 'Delete Booking' feature, as appropriate.  Click on “go to my account” then click on booking ref then click on the required action in the righthand column.  'Edit' will let you change the equipment, timeslot, etc., 'Cancel Items' will let you change what is booked, and 'Delete Booking' can be used to cancel the booking entirely.

Q: Can you renew a booking for me?

A: Please use the renew booking feature. This can be done 3 days before the booking is due to be returned. Click on “go to my account” then click on booking ref then click on “renew booking” in the righthand column. You can find full instructions with pictures in My DJCAD Facilities and Workshops under Facility: Digital Equipment Loans.

Q: I successfully completed the DJCAD Digital Equipment Loans induction and the quiz and still don’t have access! Why not?

A: It can take up to 48hrs to process student accounts. Online induction has been open and accessible since the start of term. We will endeavour to process quicker than this, however, please do not contact the DEL staff unless more than 3 working days have passed. You will receive email confirmation when this is complete.

Q: Will equipment be tested before I borrow it?

A:  Equipment Loans staff do not have the resources to test equipment before it is loaned out, or after it is returned, so this is the responsibility of the person borrowing the equipment, as per the Loan Policy.  Please confirm that any equipment you borrow is working as expected as soon as you possibly can, ideally before you leave DJCAD site.

Q: The equipment I borrowed is not working, what do I do?

A: Please inform Euipment Loans staff immediately, via the djcaddigital@dundee.ac.uk email address, so that they can advise.  If it is determined that the equipment is not working, you may be asked to return it as soon as possible for evaluation, as per the Loan Policy

Q: I want access to another area's workshop how do I get inducted?

A: Please contact the technician responsible for this area. Contacts and further info can be found in MyDJCAD in the MyDJCAD Facilities folder.
